| Growing up as a military brat kid two things come to mind that influence my photography today. I was surrounded by photography during childhood with my Dad being the post photographer (in CA) and we crisscrossed the country numerous times on month long road trips. This combination draws me to the landscape in all its manifestations. Consequently landscape photography with a view camera was my initial passion and I continue to approach photography from a landscape photographer's perspective. The view camera brings out the intimate details that are hidden from our everyday viewing. Often this is not the result of our inability to see, but because we've seen it too often. I seek the richness that of all these details provide in my photographs, whether it's a barren landscape or a complicated beach scene. A subject I am currently exploring is the human footprint upon the landscape, and nature's footprint on mankind. This contemporary theme is the core of my three current portfolios: Hurricane Ike, West Texas Grit and the American Beach Scene. |
